FAQ’s

CrossFit looks very difficult.  What can I do to prepare before joining?

Although it is true that we train to do very difficult things in CrossFit, we understand that most people (even seasoned athletes) are not ready to just jump right into a CrossFit workout.  We assess the abilities of all our clients, start by teaching them the fundamentals, and then ease them into the workouts at a comfortable pace.  Our focus is on safety first, then efficiency, and finally intensity.  In fact, if you try to get ready for CrossFit on your own, you are much more likely to over-train or injure yourself than if you come and workout under the watchful eye of one of our expert coaches!

So come in and do an assessment workout.  Simply call Chris at 338-2840 and make an appointment .  We customize each workout to your ability level.  For most new members, we’ll take you through a two week Boot Camp that will prepare you for our program.  Even after the Boot Camp, however, every workout is personalized to your ability level.  So you will always be making progress.  But at a pace that you can handle.

I don’t need any help or instruction. Can I join so I have a place where I can come in and do my own workouts?

No, for a few reasons. First of all, we have classes nearly every hour of the day we are open so there isn’t much space or equipment that is unused to allow for this. Secondly, we take an interest in all of our clients’ success and this is really hard to monitor if we don’t know what you are doing and how often you are training.

If you are interested in a personalized training program, we offer personal training with flexible schedules and training plans tailored to your fitness and health goals.

But all I need is some bumper plates, a rower, and some rings. I can learn everything I need to know from videos online.

We feel your pain.  Sounds like you are looking for a garage gym. We started out this way, too, spending about $3000 and countless hours building our garage gym. What we learned from this was:

  1. The times we made the biggest improvements was when a good coach was watching us and could make a correction on our form or encourage us to go faster.
  2. It’s the most fun and motivating to work out when friends and family work out with us.
  3. There is always more equipment to buy.

So before you start outfitting your garage with rowers, ropes, squat racks, and kettlebells, make the relatively inexpensive investment in a membership at CrossFit Initiative.  We’ll give you the coaching and motivation you need.  And 6 months down the road all that equipment won’t be collecting dust in your garage.  Instead, you’ll be in the best shape of your life and be part of a community that will keep you motivated for years to come!

How long are your membership contracts?

We don’t have contracts.  Instead we have commitments.  Based on your commitment level, your monthly price gets cheaper and cheaper.  This is a commitment to you and your health.  Achieving your fitness goals will take time, and we are willing to meet you half way if you’re willing to make a commitment.  Our commitment levels vary from Month-to-Month to 12 month commitments.

What makes you guys so special anyway?

When you workout at CrossFit Initiative, you aren’t just renting equipment.  You are getting expert coaching and motivation.  You are treated with respect and admiration for taking the initiative to take control of your health and your life!  We are passionate about this.  And it shows.

Why is your gym called CrossFit Initiative?

“CrossFit”  because we train using the methodology designed by CrossFit.  “Initiative”  because we advocate taking initiative to accomplish things worth accomplishing.  Simply put, great accomplishments are the result of hard work… period.  At CrossFit Initiative, you will work hard, and you will love it.
