Greg, Aaron, Rob and I (Reid) have been in San Francisco all week for the Game Developer Conference. Training while traveling is always tough but I’ve managed to drop in for a workout at LaLanne CrossFit on Thursday. It’s always fun to see how others train. If you are ever able to train at another CrossFit gym, you might be surprised how much you’ll feel right at home. The WOD had lots of squat snatches in it and even though they have bumber plates they aren’t allowed to drop the weights because it shakes the offices upstairs. Reminded me of how lucky we are to not have to compromise our training for neighbors at CrossFit Initiative. Being able to go for Max Effort lifts is one of the things about CrossFit that is important to us (Ty and the rest of the trainers) and you just can’t do that if you don’t have an environment where you can fail safely. I don’t regret the workout, though. Having to control the weight all the way from the floor to overhead and back down again takes much more effort than being able to drop it from overhead.

Another thing I love to do while travelling is to take off on a run with no predetermined course. Greg and I ran this morning in the rain. We were running along Embarcadero when I suggested we run to the Coit Tower. After a few dead ends, we finally found some stairs to take us to the top. We took Filbert “Street” down. There was a street sign for Filbert but the street was just a long, steep staircase. Along the way down, there were even a few “cross streets”, which consisted of a boardwalk from one staircase to the other. The houses had great views and really pretty yards, but we couldn’t get our head around how you’d move furniture in and out of these houses.

WOD

Run 10k

This is about 8 laps around the lake plus 200m.  Be smart about this.  Bring water and set it by the starting point on the lake.  Go into this planning on doing the full 8 laps but listen to your body.  The nice thing about running around the lake is that you’re always pretty close to the gym, so if something starts hurting, rather than running through the pain and risk injury just go back to the start and walk back to the gym.

Madera Stage Race

I’m bike racing in Madera, CA tomorrow and Sunday.  There are two races on Saturday and one on Sunday.  You can see how I do as the result are posted here
