Triathlon Training

When I talk to people about the sport, most people tell me they’d like to do one but are scared of the swim. So I thought I’d offer a triathlon training program at the gym where we’ll spend a lot of time working on learning to swim. No swim experience necessary.
The race: Golden State Triathlon on October 10, 2010 at Discovery Park in Sacramento, CA.
Two race distances available:
| Super Sprint Distance | Sprint Distance |
| Super Sprint Triathlon 200 yard swim – 5 mile bike – 1 mile run |
Golden State Triathlon .5 mile swim – 15 mile bike – 3 mile run |
What’s included?
- A training schedule customized for the race and your abilities based on CrossFit plus sport specific training
- Group swims. We’ll try to do as many as possible at local lakes so you get open water experience but we may do some pool sessions as well.
- Group runs. Leaving from the gym or locations around town
- Group rides. Leaving from the gym or locations around town
- Clinics. We’ll cover race specific topics like transitions, swim, bike and run technique, bike fitting and aerodynamics
- Advice on equipment you’ll need and what to get when it comes to bikes, shoes, wetsuits, etc.
What you need:
- A bike. Preferably a road bike but you can make it work with a mountain bike or commuter bike. If you don’t have one I can help you shop for one. Or ask around and find a friend that will let you borrow theirs to train and race on.
- A watch. Preferably a GPS watch that will record speeds and distances for biking and running
- Swimsuit, goggles, and a wetsuit. You’ll only need the wetsuit for open water swims and the race. Eclipse running rents them out here in town if you aren’t ready to buy one yet.
- Be willing to spend some time in the water to practice or learn how to swim.
